MIL-PRF-49320A(CR)
3.8.4.1 Storage and operation. The MLRF shall exhibit neither damage nor degradation of
performance due to storage or operation within altitudes up to 15,000 feet in an unprotected
operating mode.
3.8.4.2 Rapid decompression. The MLRF, in the Laser rangefinder case, shall not present a
safety or health hazard to personnel, or aircraft either during, or after exposure to an equivalent
altitude change from 15,000 to 40,000 feet, which occurs within 15 seconds. Additionally, the
MLRF shall present neither a safety nor health when subsequent operation is attempted.
3.8.5 Fungus. The MLRF, Laser Rangefinder case, tripod and shipping and storage
container shall not support fungus growth, nor experience damage, nor degradation of performance
by the presence of fungus spores or adjacent fungus growth.
3.8.6 Vibration.
3.8.6.1 Field vibration. The MLRF shall exhibit neither damage nor degradation of
performance by exposure to a thirty (30) minute vibration, 10 minutes in each orthogonal axis.
3.8.6.2 Transportation vibration. The MLRF, in its shipping and storage container,
containing all the ancillary items, shall exhibit neither damage, nor degradation of performance after
being subjected to vibrations typically induced when transported as loose cargo hostile field
conditions.
3.8.7 Shock.
3.8.7.1 Field shock. The MLRF shall exhibit neither damage nor degradation of performance
resulting from physical shocks typically encountered during handling, and field use.
3.8.7.2 Transportation shock. When the MLRF is packaged in its shipping and storage
container with all the ancillary items, it shall not be damaged, or exhibit degradation of performance
as a result of physical shocks incurred during typical field transportation, including loading and
unloading from tracked and wheeled vehicles, and manportable transportation.
3.8.7.3 Bench handling. The MLRF shall exhibit neither damage nor degradation of
performance after experiencing mechanical shocks commonly induced during repair, maintenance,
and system checkout.
3.8.8 Sand and dust. The MLRF shall exhibit neither damage nor degradation of
performance by exposure, with lens covers installed, to blowing sand and dust..
3.8.9 Salt fog. The MLRF and the shipping and storage container shall exhibit neither
damage nor degradation of performance due to exposure to a salt atmosphere.
3.8.10 Explosive atmosphere. The MLRF shall not initiate combustion when operated in an
atmosphere that is heavily laden with fumes of aircraft or ground vehicle fuels.
