MIL-PRF-49320A(CR)
3.4.2 Finish. Chemical and biological agent resistant materials and finishes shall be used to
facilitate decontamination and use of the MLRF in a toxic environment. Finishes shall also be anti-
reflective.
3.4.3 Marking. The assembly and all spare components, subassemblies and parts shall be
marked in accordance with A3187100.
3.4.4 Workmanship. All optical parts shall be free of material defects such as bubbles, seeds,
cracks, feathers, milkiness and other imperfections. Manufacturing defects such as blisters, burns,
chips, dirt and other like defects shall be cause for rejection of the component or final assembly.
3.5 Reliability. The MLRF shall provide a Mean Ranges Between Failures (MRBF) of not
less than 40,000 ranges. This shall be the lower test (θ1) MRBF and shall be demonstrated with
80 percent confidence. Replacement of batteries is not included in this requirement.
3.6 Environmental stress screening (ESS). Each MLRF shall accumulate a minimum of
24 hours exposure composed of repetitions of the temperature and power profiles in Figure 2 and
the vibration profile per Figure 2 and Figure 5 and with the last two cycles failure free.
3.7 Performance.
3.7.1 Beam characteristics.
3.7.1.1 Operating wavelength. All laser emissions shall be at 1.54 ± 0.02 microns.
3.7.1.2 Pulse width. Each MLRF shall exhibit pulse widths which fall between 16 and
30 nanoseconds inclusive and each pulse width shall equal the mean value x. ± 3 nanoseconds for
the MLRF tested.
3.7.1.3 Single pulse. The MLRF shall produce only one laser pulse resulting from each range
operation. The MLRF shall emit this pulse only when the "FIRE" switch is depressed in
accordance with the correct ranging sequence (see 3.12.5).
3.7.1.4 Beam divergence. Not less than 80 percent of the output energy shall be contained
within a 1.0 milliradian diameter beam divergence as measured in the far field.
3.7.1.5 Output energy. The output energy of each MLRF unit shall be between 10 and
33 millijoules. The pre ESS mean measurement shall be between 15 and 19 millijoules. The
maximum dispersion about the mean value shall not exceed ± 25 percent of the mean value. The
rate of exposure at the output aperture shall not exceed 1 J/CM2.
3.7.2 Ranging.
3.7.2.1 Range capability. The MLRF shall determine and display in the eyepiece the distance
to a target from a minimum of 50 meters to a maximum of 9995 meters in 5 meter increments.
